Love at First Sticker

For Chris and Connie, our classic blue banana sticker is about more than Chiquita: it’s about family, traditions, and most of all, love.

Growing up, Connie’s mom collected Chiquita stickers and displayed them for her and her sister to play with. Most of the stickers were placed under the dinner table so the kids could look at them while they crawled around. Little did Connie know the Chiquita sticker was going to change her life . . .

Fast forward a few years: Connie is now an adult working full-time and is known around the office as the “Chiquita Sticker Collector.” Connie’s sticker collection had actually begun several years earlier by accident. One day her dad noticed a Chiquita sticker she had absentmindedly placed on the dash of her car. He made a comment which struck up the memories of her mom’s collection. Many years had passed and Connie had forgotten all about those brightly colored stickers her mother had kept around the house. The fond childhood memories prompted her to start her own collection. She now keeps her stickers around her computer which ultimately caught the attention of her co-workers (one in particular). Here enters Chris . . .

Chris and Connie met at work and dated for two years before they became engaged. Chris was attuned to Connie’s love of stickers and diligently brought her back Chiquita stickers from his various trips to Europe.

After two years of dating, Chris knew he wanted to marry Connie – he also knew he wanted to propose in a unique and special way. Because Chiquita sticker-collecting was a signature hobby for Connie, he knew he wanted to incorporate them some how. Chris then set out to design the most unique proposal . . .

It was a regular Thursday afternoon; they were at home in the kitchen together and Chris asked Connie to look at the bananas because there was a new sticker he didn’t think she’d seen yet. As she started to look over, Chris pulled the ring from his pocket and was about to get ready when she replied, “I don’t think I have that one,” pointing to a new design. She had only noticed that the text on the sticker was larger than the normal font and paid no attention to what the text actually said. Connie continued to rinse off her dishes from the days lunch and dry off her hands for what seemed to Chris like an eternity. Finally, she turned and looked at a banana.

This was not an ordinary banana – it had a sticker on it which read: “Connie will you marry me?” As Connie turned with her mouth open wide in a state of shock she saw Chris on his knee with the ring. Connie was speechless as Chris explained that he did not know how to ask her but knew he just couldn’t wait any longer. They both had tears in their eyes when Connie accepted his proposal.

Looking back, Connie is shocked at how such a simple thing her mother did could end up affecting her life in such a wonderful way.

As the wedding approaches, Chris and Connie have millions of wedding decisions to make. Stay tuned for an update with Chris and Connie in six weeks.
