Mike's Yucatan Mango Winning Smoothie Recipe

When we think of smoothies and the various ingredients that go into them, fruit, yogurt and ice seem to be pretty standard fare. Not for Mike though, who likes to “spice” up his smoothies with a couple unexpected ingredients that make this recipe a unique and surprisingly tasty winner in our Chiquita Banana Organic Smoothie Recipe Contest. If you’re interested in learning how to make a mango smoothie with lots of exotic extras like serrano peppers and coconut, this is the fruit smoothie recipe for you!

I love incorporating Mexican flavors into my recipes. Here, I use dark agave syrup as a sweetener instead of standard sugar. The dark agave syrup (you can use light, as well) really adds a nice, natural "caramel" flavor to the drink. I also like a little heat in my food so the serrano pepper adds a unique, unexpected spicy twist to your standard smoothie. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it works!! Try these smoothies at your next Mexican-themed party, and I guarantee they'll be a hit.
